Detox

I know what you are all thinking…Detox?? Really Raven?! I know I know. Some people are totally against the detox fad. To be honest I would have to say that I was kind of hesitant as well. Then I started to read up on them and found that detox can really be good for you body. Especially if you do it right! There are some detox plans that have people drinking nothing but Lemonade for like 7 days. I am sorry but there is no way that that is healthy. Or the other detox plans that have people just drink juice and eat raw vegetables. How is that ok?!

Anyways, I found a detox plan that I really like and I really feel like will help my body get back on track. After the holidays this year my body has REALLY gotten into a slump and with how active I am I really need something to jump start my system and a lot of people and nutritionists that I have talked to say that the way I have planned my detox could really good for me.

From the information that I have seen and heard detox can help to provide the following…

  • Improve immune function
  • Scavenge free radicals and eliminate toxins
  • Strengthen body’s fight against cancer cells and generate healthy cells in our body
  • Cleanse mucous, congestion, fermentation, inflammation in digestive tract
  • Purify blood
  • Reform lifestyle addictions to sugar, salt, high glycemic carbohydrates, alcohol, junk goods, nicotine, etc.

That all sounds pretty darn good to me. My main goal is to reduce the amount of toxins and pollution in my body and to promote healthy eating, nutrition, and supplementation to help my body effectively clear out the toxins I currently have. I have to admit…I have been eating just awful since the holidays and I can really feel the difference in myself because of it.

Now like I said before there are tons of different kinds of detox that you can do. Most of the detox plans I have seen completely eliminate any kind of meat. I simply can’t do that because I am too active. I am going to include VERY small portions of chicken and fish in this detox an also lots of nuts. I personally think that if you go too drastic with a detox it won’t work for you. I mean if you LOVE something you really shouldn’t have to give it up for forever. I am a moderation girl, all the way. I am really taking into consideration my current lifestyle and how I need to adapt this detox to help me attain my goal, which is to be healthier.

Here is the menu for myself for the first 4 days of my Detox:

Doesn’t seem so bad right? The real rules to this is that you want to stay away from meat protein as much as you can as well as salt. So all the nuts will be unsalted. All the cooking will only be done with olive oil and garlic. You are allowed to season with pepper and fresh herbs which I am planning to do. Also to drink TONS of water and natural fruit juices and fruit smoothies as well. I am sure this will get changed up a bit but my main guidelines as to what I will be eating is above.

So that is my story for today! I am definitely going to need all of your support with this haha. I start on Monday so I can get a nice and fresh start to everything. I would hate to start it in the middle of the week because I feel like it would be a wasted week. Anyways, I plan to do this for 14 days and will be documenting everything on those days so I can not only share it with you, who knows maybe someone else will see it and want to do it as well, but also use my blog like a log for myself.

Whew! What a mouthful that all is huh? I know some of you are going to be super skeptical of this and that is totally OK. When I told my Mom and Dad I was going to do this they called me a “chook”. So I really welcome the criticism. And please if you have any suggestions please feel free to drop me a comment!
