Blueberry Lynchburg Lemonade

Hello Hello! How are all my wonderful foodies doing?! I have been hardcore missing in action this week. This past weekend I did the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, 60 mile, Walk in Bostonwalk for Breast Cancer in Boston and this week I have been taking vacation from work, a MUCH needed break from the norm. I didn’t go anywhere special, just hanging out with my mom and spending some quality time with her. πŸ™‚

The walk one of the most liberating experiences of my life and it was one of the hottest weekends in Boston on record! I didn’t mind the heat though, I was there because I wanted to support those going through cancer and those we have lost. My best friend Tamara’s mother passed away because of breast cancer and I walked for her, among many others like Kait’s aunt and also family members of mine. This particular event I wanted to remember the Abromitis family. Tamara’s mother pushed me when I felt like I couldn’t go another foot.Β  I truly believe that she was there the entire walk watching over me and helping me achieve my goal.

Through the efforts of my family and friends not only was I able to complete the 60 miles (man did my legs and feet hurt) but I was also able to raise $2,500 for women with cancer and the research they do to find a cure every single day. The Boston event alone raised $4.8 millon for this organization.

There was a woman named Maureen that I met while I was on this walk and she has been battling cancer since 2007. She has children and a husband and is also part of a 32 person team for the walk. How amazing is it that this woman has been battling cancer and still walks in this event? I was blown away. She told me, “When someone says to you, ‘why on earth are you walking 60 miles for breast cancer?’, you tell them you are walking so that a mother can have more time with her kids.” These women are an inspiration and I am so honored that the money I raised is going to go toward the research to help this woman possibly have a longer life.

Everyone deserves a lifetime.

Since I have been in vacation this week...I decided I wanted to make some yummy cocktails. Why not right? This one I am going to share is one of my absolute favorites…mainly because it was whiskey in it hehe πŸ˜‰

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1.5 fluid ounces whiskey
  • 1.5 fluid ounces sweet and sour mix
  • 1.5 fluid ounces triple sec
  • 3/4 cup chilled lemon-lime soda
  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
  • orange slices for garnish

Place ice cubes in your pitcher and then add in whiskey, sweet and sour, triple sec, and soda. Stir until combined. Add in blueberries and then pour and enjoy.

Simple and easy right?

Garnish with orange wedges if you like.

Hope you all had a great week!! πŸ˜€
